Given this development -- China to expand "Great Internet Firewall" -- why did anyone ever believe the Chinese government would loosen up its citizens' contact with the outside world via the internet? Microsoft and Google are both complicit, if obliquely, in this kind of crackdown because they gave it approval when they agreed to limit certain kinds of content reaching the Chinese mainland from their online services. These companies had nothing to be ashamed of, and no good reasons to bow to the Chinese government's wishes. And now the tyrants in chanrge in China are making things even tighter. America, and American companies, should stop helping them oppress their people and imprison their minds.
